General Manager | VMU Manager 

Up to £53,000 per annum + Management Bonus + Eco Car + Excellent Benefits Package 

Monday to Friday 08:00 – 17:30

Due to our continued success as one of the country’s leading suppliers of heavy commercial vehicles we have an exciting opportunity for a General Manager | VMU Manager.

Based at our Doncaster VMU branch. The VMU Manager will handle all day to day operations of the workshop, parts and administration.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver maximum fleet availability in conjunction with a cost effective and quality driven maintenance operation for the customer.
  • Lead and develop the VMU team and ensure they have the necessary skills and competencies to meet, and exceed, the customer’s expectations.
  • Help define the culture in the VMU through the provision of feedback, coaching and leadership.
  • Ensure the provision of accurate and timely communication (written & verbal) to the customer.
  • Develop a close working relationship with the site operational management team to ensure a mutual understanding of the respective day to day operational requirements.
  • Delivery of a robust ‘plan, do, review’ process within the VMU.
  • Ensure all areas of compliance under the control of the VMU are consistently delivered.
  • Ensure the efficient planning of work throughput in the VMU to maximise fleet availability and productivity.  With particular emphasis on the customer’s peak periods.
  • Ensure the timely delivery, and accuracy of, the daily VOR reports.
  • Ensure that the highest standards of H&S and safe working practices are being applied within the VMU and all training is documented accordingly.
  • Ensure the necessary financial controls are in place to assist in the preparation and ongoing achievement of the VMU operating budget
  • Ensure that the highest standards of maintenance are applied in the VMU and regular audits are in place to consistently achieve the required quality standards.
  • Ensure that the highest standards of housekeeping are being applied within the VMU
  • Ensure compliance to the customers and Scania’s Environmental Policy & Procedure.
  • Ensure the Parts Department achieves all required KPIs and meets the demands of the VMU
  • Ensure that the highest engineering principles and standards are maintained in accordance with Scania and the customer’s requirements
  • Develop best practice and a culture of continuous improvement to deliver ongoing benefits for the customer.
  • Consistently deliver the contractual key performance indicators for the VMU.
  • Consistently deliver the required standards in regard to operating compliance, productivity, service levels, disciplines and procedures.
  • Manage the ongoing performance of VMU Team to ensure they all have personal development plans and their objectives are in line with Scania’s contractual obligations.
  • Develop and implement a robust succession plan for the VMU Team
  • Ensure that customer’s fleet operates to the highest quality and standards of appearance in line with their expectations and corporate image.

Candidate Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing a VMU operation
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to build and sustain good relationships
  • Experience of developing VMU budgets and operating to strict financial targets
  • Ability to actively seek solutions to problems
  • Ability to plan and organise workloads and prioritise to meet customer demands
  • Able to work on own initiative and under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to organise own workload and that of the team
  • Strong advocate of process adherence

Education and/or Experience

  • LGV C+E Licence
  • Educated to a minimum of GCSE level in Maths, English and a Science subject.
  • Recognised engineering qualification i.e. HND, City & Guilds Full technicians Certificate, Institute of Road Transport Engineers (section C)
  • Knowledge of the ADP Autoline 8.35/Multi/SDP3/Warranty and AS400 systems
  • Health & Safety qualification in IOSH or NEBOSH
